Summary To perform and assist with clinical procedures, maintain equipment, perform laboratory procedures and provide direct patient care.t care. There is also some general office support services that will be needed within the clinic. Perform allergy testing and other complex diagnostic tests, including those requiring complex specimen collections and complex equipment. Provide routine but complex instructions for patient procedures and treatments, according to unit guidelines and as delegated by providers and nurses. Assist with complex procedures, requiring knowledge of complex and varied equipment including LEEP and laser. Provide in-service training and precepting as directed Problem-solve issues related to the retrieval of medical information. Coordinate clinical services provided to patients according to payer guidelines (e.g., routing of lab specimens, ordering durable medical equipment). Develop and recommend changes in patient care activities to improve the quality of patient care services. Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas. Perform other related duties as assigned. General supervision is received from Administrative Manager, Medical Director or Nurse Manager. Required Qualifications* High school diploma or GED.Graduation from a medical assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and experience (1 - 3 years) is necessary; additional formal education in a health care field is desired.Knowledge of basic medical terminology is necessary.Certification as a Medical Assistant is desirable Desired Qualifications* Certification as a Medical Assistant. Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems. Knowledge of University policies and procedures. Work Schedule Monday- Friday with some evening shifts and rotating Saturdays Union Affiliation This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. Background Screening Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
